Drama Teacher Kori Rushton, Principal Alyce Barr, and Music Teacher Christine Piccirillo from the Brooklyn School of Collaborative StudiesIt is our pleasure to announce the Brooklyn School for Collaborative Studies (BSC) as the winner of the 2011 Imagination Award! Lincoln Center Institute created this annual award to encourage and acknowledge New York City public schools that successfully incorporate and foster imaginative thinking in their teaching and learning in any subject across the curriculum. Winning for its middle school efforts, BSC prepares young people in grades 6 through 12 to be life-long learners and to live successfully in our evolving world. The school promotes rigorous study, engaging curriculum, and an active, inquiry-based pedagogy—meaning that questioning is encouraged. This is very much like everything we at LCI support, and the pleasure of giving the Brooklyn School for Collaborative Studies the 2011 Imagination Award is all the greater. We applaud BSC for their outstanding achievement. Congratulations to all the staff, headed by Principal Alyce Barr, who give the school its direction and guide its students toward desireable goals with imaginative learning.
